Quote of the Week:
“Decide what you want to do. Then decide to do it. Then do it.” —William Zissner, On Writing Well
Fact of the Week:
Bananas are actually considered berries. And, as it turns out, berries are not at all what they seem. Raspberries, blackberries, and strawberries are technically not berries (they are considered aggregate fruits, meaning made up of many smaller fruits).
Meanwhile, watermelons, cucumbers, tomatoes, and avocados (along with bananas) are all technically berries. Each fits the definition of being a simple, fleshy fruit that comes from a flower with a single ovary.

Oftentimes it can take years for a college graduate to reach a six-figure salary. Many will never get there. But one multinational corporation is offering a path to earn up to $210,000 within two years of employment—it’s just not the company you would think.
Walmart has announced a fast-track plan for upcoming and recent college graduates to enter into store management roles that will pay generously. The retail giant will begin the new program (called College2Career) this summer, where they will give training and hands-on experience to the 1,000 accepted applicants.
According to Daily Mail, “Employees will be partnered with store leaders and at the end of the program, high performers will be offered a newly created management position of 'emerging coach' – with a starting salary of $65,000. College students will be able to step into the role after they graduate, while recent grads will start immediately. 'This is just the beginning,' the store pointed out in the statement, adding that the average salary of Walmart store managers nationwide was $210,000 in 2021.”
It can sometimes take a decade for an individual to work their way up to store manager, so Walmart’s "two year" declaration is eye-catching. Though sometimes infamously known for treating its employees poorly, Walmart has been raising its standards since the pandemic when the country’s outlook on employment changed drastically.
According to Insider, “In April, Walmart bumped the starting salary for its truckers from about $87,500, to between $95,000 and $110,000.” It also is offering to cover 100% of college tuition for its workforce, according to CNN.
If you are a recent college graduate or will be graduating within 12 months, you are eligible to apply for the College2Career program.

One of the most impressive running feats this year did not take place in the NCAA’s—it came from a high schooler. On Sunday, Gary Martin ran a sub-4 minute mile (3:57.98, in fact), becoming just the fifth person to run a sub-4 in a high school-only competition.
Of the five runners to complete this feat, only Jim Ryun and Martin did it without a pacer. Martin’s time broke Ryun’s record, which was set in 1965.
"I can get through the first 400 meters in about 58 seconds or so," Martin said, according to Yahoo!. “And normally, my next laps after that are about 60 seconds or a little slower and I fall off pace a little bit... But this time, my second lap was 58.6 again. So, I knew I was well on pace and after about two laps, I was pretty confident I had it."
Ryun’s time of 3:58.3 in 1965 stood as the fastest time by a high schooler until Alan Webb broke it in 2001. Webb ran a 3:53.43 mile at Nike's Prefontaine Classic. Both Ryun and Webb went on to be Olympic athletes, which is exactly what Martin hopes to do.
"I'd like to think that it's not crazy for me to say that it's a dream now," he said. "Obviously, I'm still a long ways away and have some work to do, but I'm confident in my ability. I have the dream; now I just have to put the work in and chase it."
Martin is a senior and is committed to run at the University of Virginia.

A red house is made of red bricks, and a yellow house is made of yellow bricks. What is a greenhouse made of?
