Fact of the Week:
The longest odds ever overcome by a sports team were those that Leicester City faced in the 2015/16 English Premier League season. Leicester, who had barely avoided relegation the year before, was given 5000 to 1 odds, or +500,000, to win the league. There are no playoffs, so they would have to be the best team across the 38-game season.
The Foxes went on an improbable run, losing just three times that year and ultimately winning the league by ten points. They single-handedly changed the betting landscape (books no longer offer such long odds on underdogs) and made a few bettors very, very happy.

This week we’ve recapped two news stories for you. Catholics bashed Villanova for its new gender inclusive guidelines, and one student was killed and two injured when a brick column collapsed at Lewis & Clark College.
Villanova University Criticized for Gender Inclusiveness:
Villanova too inclusive? Via Villanova University
Villanova University, a Catholic college in Philadelphia, was criticized for trying to be more gender inclusive. The university released a guide developed by the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Gender & Women’s Studies department, which gave suggestions like, "Remind yourself and others that gender inclusivity is fundamental to Villanova’s mission;" "Add a Gender Inclusion statement to your syllabus or new employee orientation materials;" and "Carefully review your course rosters and employee records for name and pronoun designations."
Some devout Catholics, however, did not appreciate Villanova’s vision. According to Fox News, John Monaco, “A Catholic commentator and Duquesne University theological doctoral student, told the College Fix that it’s ‘shameful’ Villanova is working to embrace ‘every novelty of the progressive Left.’”
“The Church encourages sensitivity, compassion, and respect, but never at the sake of suppressing the truth. Unfortunately, this is just another episode of a Catholic university nodding along to the zeitgeist,” Monaco added. Later, he told Fox News, “Still, it is nothing short of astonishing that Villanova University does not simply tolerate gender ideology, but actively promotes it.”
Those following the situation can only hope Villanova is punished for its egregious consideration.
Brick Column Collapses, Killing 1 and Injuring 2:
Students at Lewis & Clark College were enjoying a sunny day back at school when tragedy struck. According to CBS News, six students were relaxing in three hammocks when a brick column to which the hammocks were attached suddenly collapsed. No cause for the collapse was given.
A 19-year-old male died and two 18-year-old females were in unknown conditions. One of the women suffered injuries to her arm, the other to her abdomen.
"We are devastated to report that earlier this evening, a tragic accident occurred on the undergraduate campus in which one of our students was killed and two others were injured," the school said in a news release. "We are working to contact the students' families and will report more information as it becomes available. We are deeply saddened by the shocking loss of a member of our community."

Finally, college football is back. After a long summer of anticipation, the top teams begin their road to the College Football Playoff this weekend.
The pick of this weekend’s games is No. 2 Ohio State versus No. 5 Notre Dame. Ohio State has several Heisman-hopefuls—including quarterback CJ Stroud—and are 17-point favorites. Part of the reason the Irish are such big underdogs is because of the loss of their top receiver, Avery Davis, to a torn ACL in August. It is also coach Marucs Freeman’s first game in charge of Notre Dame, and it comes against the team for which he used to play linebacker.
The other game to watch for is No. 3 Georgia versus No. 11 Oregon. Georgia, the reigning national champions, lost their defensive coordinator, Dan Lanning, to a head coaching position. It turns out that position is at Oregon. Lanning will have a tall task when the Ducks travel to Atlanta, but he knows the team he’s up against better than almost anyone.
Elsewhere, No. 1 Alabama takes on Utah State and No. 4 Clemson faces Georgia Tech.
