Quote of the Week:
“The ability to speak does not make you intelligent.” –Qui-Gon Jinn, The Phantom Menace (Star Wars)
Fact of the Week:
Harry Chiti’s 12-year career in the MLB was not bereft of interesting moments. Chiti began playing in the pros at the age of seventeen, making appearances for the Chicago Cubs between 1950-1952. His blossoming career, however, was interrupted for two years when he went to serve in the US Army during the Korean War.
Upon his return to baseball in 1955, Chiti earned the starting role at catcher, batting .231 with 11 home runs and 41 RBI. In 1956, Chiti memorably hit a triple while being intentionally walked during the Cubs 11-9 win against the Milwaukee Braves.
But the most noteworthy moment of Chiti’s career didn’t even come on the field. In 1962, he was acquired by the New York Mets expansion team from the Cleveland Indians for “a player to be named later.” However, after two disappointing months, Chiti was then sent back to Cleveland as “the player to be named later.” In effect, he became the first player ever to be traded for himself.
Chiti would never play a professional game again, and after two years in the minors he would retire in 1964.

The news quickly swept across the country on Friday: the suspect of the four murders in Idaho had been arrested. After weeks of unease with the killer on the loose, there was a great sense of relief as Bryan Kohberger, 28, was arrested at his house in Pennsylvania.
Kohberger will be extradited to Idaho where he will be formally charged. At that point, the police will be able to release full details of what led them to suspect Kohberger, though several authorities close to the case said that DNA evidence played a key role. Thus far, few details are known about Kohberger and his possible motives. He was a PhD student studying criminal justice and criminology at a school near the University of Idaho.
Law enforcement hope to move Kohberger quickly back to Idaho, meaning as soon as he arrives in court (which will likely be Saturday) and is handed papers formally stating his charge, more details will be released to the public.
In a different courtroom on the other side of the country (in Boston, to be precise), Rick Singer will receive his sentence around 2:30 p.m. today. Singer was the mastermind of the Varsity Blues college admissions scandal.
According to NPR, “Prosecutors want him sentenced to six years in prison, while Singer is asking the judge to let him off with little or no prison time.”

Two of the most memorable college football semifinal games took place on New Year’s Eve, with TCU and Georgia eventually booking their places in the final. Number 3 TCU looked to have pulled away from #2 Michigan multiple times, but each time the Wolverines clawed their way back. They had one final drive to win the game but couldn’t come up with a conversion on 4th & 10, losing a thriller, 51-45.
In the second game, #1 Georgia outscored #4 Ohio State 18-3 in the fourth quarter to take a 42-41 lead. Ohio State then had a chance to win it, but Noah Ruggles’ 50-yard field goal with three seconds left sailed left just as the clock struck midnight to mark the new year. Georgia and TCU will play in the CFP Championship on Monday, with Georgia opening as 12.5-point favorites.
On Monday, #16 Tulane beat #10 USC 46-45 in the Cotton Bowl by scoring 16 points in the last 4:07, including a safety that set up the possession for the game winning touchdown. Penn State, ranked 11th, beat #8 Utah 35-21 in the Rose Bowl, their first victory in the competition since 1995 when they beat Oregon 38-20.
