News Update:

Hello to all you readers, and welcome to the first edition of Last Cup Scaries’ Weekly Blog. Our goal is to give you a brief update each week about America’s prestigious universities so you can stay informed and educated. Yes, you have to study for exams, but that is exactly why we’re here: to give you a break from the monotonous, vapid studying.

This week, our focus is on a fraternity at Eastern Michigan University. According to Newsweek, a Washtenaw County prosecutor filed a lawsuit against Delta Tau Delta to temporarily halt parties. This was in response to 15 sexual assault allegations against the fraternity since 2014, including a minimum of 23 police reports.

"We are trying to address what are very dangerous conditions that have been associated with partying and alcohol consumption at that fraternity," Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savit told The Detroit News.

Savit also told The Detroit News that the adjacent incidents include indecent exposure, sexual harassment, and physical abuse of romantic partners.

"Hopefully this does serve as a wake-up call to take the scourge of sexual assaults seriously," Savit said, MLive.com reported. "Not just with respect to this particular fraternity but for college students and Greek life organizations across Washtenaw County."

On Monday night, the Georgia Bulldogs captured their first College Football Championship since 1980, beating Alabama 33-18. It was sweet revenge for Coach Kirby Smart, who had never beaten Nick Saban, his former boss. In fact, Saban is now 25-2 against former assistants, his only two losses coming this year.

Georgia had lost their last seven games to Alabama, including the SEC Championship earlier this year and the heart-breaking overtime loss in the 2018 National Championship.

In a game highlighted by two star quarterbacks, the defense was the story of the first three quarters. Both teams failed to score a touchdown until 1:20 left in the third, when Georgia went on top 13-9 through a one-yard Zamir White rush. But in the fourth quarter, things heated up.

Bryce Young– this year’s Heisman winner– led the Tide to a field goal, followed by a three-yard touchdown pass on their ensuing drive. They led 18-13, but they would not score again.

Many of the game’s headlines revolved around Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett, a walk-on at Georgia. He came from a junior college and entered Georgia as the third-string, before breaking through this year. His two fourth-quarter touchdown passes put Georgia up 26-18, before a 79-yard pick six by Kelee Ringo sealed Georgia’s revenge victory.

Alabama may have been knocked off their totem-pole, but in the way-too-early rankings for next season, they are once again number one.
