Fact of the Week:
The shortest reign in British monarch history belongs to Lady Jane Grey, a sixteen-year-old who ruled for a mere nine days.
On his deathbed, King Edward IV picked Lady Jane Grey as his successor, despite her being fifth in line for the throne. King Edward IV was firmly Protestant, but the next in line for the throne, his half-sister Mary, was Catholic. Lady Jane Grey was Protestant and also happened to be the daughter-in-law of the Protector of Edward IV, John Dudley, Duke of Northumberland. Dudley urged King Edward IV to choose Lady Jane Grey, and Edward IV obliged.
After nine days of ruling, however, the Council removed Lady Jane Grey from the throne as the country showed allegiance to the true royal line, instating Mary instead.
Less than a year later, English soldier Sir Wyatt led a rebellion against the throne in protest of Queen Mary’s marriage to Spanish king, Philip. Sir Wyatt was caught and beheaded. Lady Jane Grey’s father was also part of this rebellion, thus implicating her.
On February 12th, 1554, Lady Jane Grey’s husband was beheaded and his body marched past her lodgings. She was then taken to Tower Green for execution. She bravely laid her head upon the execution block and said, “Lord, into thy hands I commit my soul,” before being decapitated.

A dad who thought his local school board wasn’t doing enough to ban books threw chicken feed toward the members on June 27th, according to Fox News.
"I've appealed to you all repeatedly, and only a few of you have recognized we do not need to keep sexually explicit books in our schools," David Cook said to the Beaufort County School District of South Carolina. He then proceeded to reach into a bag of chicken feed and throw it toward the members seated behind a table.
"There's your chicken feed,” he said. “I give you this gift as a way to demonstrate mine and many others' opinion of your lack of action. Chicken. Too afraid. Matter of fact, your behavior gives chicken a bad name."
This outburst followed Cook’s statement about the detriments of child pornography, in which he cited a study by the American College of Pediatricians from June of 2016. Exactly which books Cook hoped to have banned was not clear.

For the second time ever, an LSU baseball player was drafted number one overall into the MLB. Paul Skenes, a right handed pitcher, was chosen by the Pittsburgh Pirates with the first pick. His college teammate, outfielder Dylan Crews, went second to the Washington Nationals. Both players were integral parts of LSU’s national championship-winning season.
LSU became just the third collegiate team to have multiple players picked one overall. Vanderbilt has also had two players go first, while Arizona State has provided four number one picks.
Part of the reason that such few programs have produced multiple top picks is because 28 of the 59 first overall picks have been straight out of high school. The highest a high schooler went this year was third overall, with outfielder Max Clark of Indiana going to the Detroit Tigers.
