Quote of the Week:
“When you like a flower, you just pluck it. But when you love a flower, you water it daily.” –Unknown
Fact of the Week:
In 2014 the UK introduced its first “poo bus”— a bus that runs on human waste. Nicknamed “The Number Two,” the bus runs between Bath and Bristol Airport, getting up to 186 miles per tank on human and food waste. The reason for this odd source of energy is that it is more sustainable compared to gasoline.

In fifth grade, children begin learning about their “body.” In middle school, this thread of education continues, where squeamish students sit through lectures on genitalia and the miracle of birth. By high school, the students—though still uncomfortable—are used to these topics, though they must endure talks about safe sex and STDs.
It is necessary for schools to educate students about these things, however uncomfortable they might be, but high school is often the end of the line. That is not necessarily true at Westminster College (Utah). This year, the school is offering a class on pornography.
According to USA Today, “‘FILM-300O: Porn’ course says students in the class watch pornographic films together and discuss the ‘sexualization of race, class and gender,’ as well as explore pornography as an ‘experimental, radical art form.’ The listing says pornography is ‘as American as apple pie and more popular than Sunday night football.’”
As the public found out about the class, many took to Twitter to share their thoughts, the majority expressing disgust and outrage.
“The corruption of young minds continues,” tweeted one user. “Who is the PERVERT who is going to enjoy watching porn with young students? ALUMNI approved this?”
Another said that Westminster is offering a college course “in pursuit of its worthless and woke ‘gender studies’ degree”.
Still others made jokes about it, with a user tweeting, “Want to know how you earn extra credit in this class?”
Despite many people’s explicit opposition, the course will continue. Briefly, it appeared that the class had been taken off Westminster’s website, but in fact it had only been moved to a different location.
In an email exchange between USA Today and Westminster CMO, Sheila Rappazzo Yorkin, Yorkin said 14 students were registered for the course as of April 21. She said the course will continue as planned, but “the name of the faculty member teaching it was removed from the listing ‘due to fear of harassment.’”
This course has been offered in the past, though not since the onset of the pandemic. Generally, around 20 students enroll.

The president of the NCAA is stepping down. Mark Emmert, 69, headed college sports’ main organization since 2010, but has come to a mutual agreement with the NCAA Board of Governors to leave his post. He will depart when a new president is hired, or by June 30, 2023, whichever comes first.
Many people are of the opinion that it was about time, fed up with Emmert’s large salary ($2.7 million per year), and ineffectiveness.
Dan Wetzel, a columnist for Yahoo!, said “Virtually every initiative Emmert attempted either failed or was pointless.” It may have been a difficult job governing the NCAA, but “it’s almost impossible to imagine anyone who could have done it worse.”
CBS’s writer, Barrett Sallee, said that “Emmert became a lightning rod for criticism due to several missteps including the slow pace in which the NCAA instituted the policy that allows players to profit off of their name, image and likeness.”
The change in leadership comes at a time that the NCAA has adopted a new constitution. Mark Schlabach of ESPN said that “the reboot of college athletics is expected to significantly reduce the NCAA's responsibility in management and enforcement of rules,” and that one athletic director said, "you can't transform everything and not that office. These things were going to have to go hand-in-hand."
Ultimately, it seems the appropriate time to change direction, as, according to CBS’s Dennis Dodd, Emmert is leaving the NCAA “with his enterprise foundering like a bass flopping around on a dock on a summer day.”
CBS, Yahoo!, and ESPN contributed to this article.
